CFPB Opens Door to Changes That Could Make Filing Complaints More Difficult

  • The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on Friday began the process to significantly reshape how consumers file complaints, particularly against credit reporting companies, a move that could also have ripple effects across debt collection, banking, and servicing. In a notice published in the Federal Register, the CFPB announced it is seeking public comment on extending and potentially modifying its Consumer Response Intake Form, the backbone of the Bureau’s complaint system.

Webinar Recap: The Jobs & Tasks That AI is Coming For

Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming the credit and collections industry, reshaping not only repetitive tasks but also core functions such as compliance, analytics, call center operations, and client reporting. In a recent webinar hosted by AccountsRecovery.net and sponsored by CSS Impact, panelists Rodrigo Fuentes (Kompato AI) and Jeremy Mapes (Mapes LLC) shared insights on how agencies and financial institutions can navigate AI adoption responsibly.

Fuentes cautioned against rushing into automation without a compliance framework: “The biggest mistake is focusing too quickly on automation without a clear compliance angle.” He emphasized the importance of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality assurance paths before integrating AI into workflows. Mapes echoed this, warning that companies mandating workforce reductions without clear execution plans risk financial and operational setbacks.

The discussion highlighted AI’s potential to outperform human agents in compliance, with Fuentes citing a 99.9% compliance rate in AI-led conversations compared to traditional QA sampling of human calls. Beyond compliance, AI offers consistency for creditors and personalization for consumers—leveraging memory of past borrower interactions to deliver tailored experiences. Practical entry points include OCR for document processing, email triage, and workflow routing, all of which free staff from repetitive tasks.

CSS Impact showcased its Impact 3.0 platform, which predicts account recovery likelihood, prioritizes high-value opportunities, and embeds compliance safeguards, delivering immediate ROI.

🧠 Key Takeaways:

  • Document before automating: Build SOPs and QA paths to ensure AI workflows are reliable and compliant.

  • Balance speed with compliance: Avoid rushing into AI adoption without safeguards, but don’t let fear of risk stall innovation.

  • Start small, scale smart: Begin with manageable AI applications (OCR, email triage, workflow routing) to unlock efficiencies before expanding.

This webinar underscored that AI is not just about replacing jobs—it’s about enhancing consistency, personalization, and compliance across the collections ecosystem
